Pass out individual copies of the story for students to reference as it is read aloud.
Invite students to trade their KWL charts with another student to share their thinking. Show your students the L column, explaining that they will complete this column after a story or research is finished.
Read the story to the students. Have them compare and contrast the story elements with Goldilocks and the Three Bears using the Venn Diagram worksheet.
Begin the lesson by discussing stories. Father bear's chair was high, mother bear's was low, but baby bear's was just right.
How did the story begin? Intermediate: Suggest a second familiar topic and practice filling out the KWL chart a second time to provide students with further practice using the KWL chart. Three bears went out of their house, and a naughty little girl pushed open the door and went in. Students place the cards in order the picture below shows it being done under the document camera.
Remind them to remember details from the story.
